Learn About AT&T Core Values
Committed to Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion are core values at AT&T, and we’ve built a unique culture of respect, fellowship, philanthropy and volunteerism.
At AT&T, inclusion is how we unleash the power of diversity. We strive each day to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment in our diverse workplace, create relevant marketing for our diverse customers, listen before engaging in our diverse communities and work as a team alongside our diverse suppliers.
We innovate with the community in mind and focus our Diversity & Inclusion practices on five pillars: our people, our communities, our customers, our content and our suppliers.
Standing for Equality
Stand for Equality is one of our core values at AT&T.
The killings of George Floyd and countless others highlight the continued injustices experienced by Black Americans. Their deaths underscore the history of violence and racism Black people still face.
Black lives matter and we have a moral and business obligation to engage on this fundamental issue of equality and fairness.
Our CEO John Stankey has committed to put AT&T resources and leadership towards initiatives that we believe can move the needle on advancing economic opportunity, overcoming systemic educational barriers and law enforcement reform.
In the Summer of 2020, AT&T agreed to lead a new Business Roundtable (BRT) initiative of top CEOs to push for public policy changes to deliver equal justice outcomes for all. This marked a shift in the business community at the national level, but it also laid the groundwork for advocacy at the state and local level.
We are continuing to work diligently in our communities to address education, workforce and other needs of underserved Black communities.
We will continue to learn from our employees, the community and other businesses, and we’re committed to keep listening and working to ensure we live true to our value to stand for equality.
Advancing Economic Empowerment
Our society doesn’t work if it doesn’t work equally for all. We recognize that inequalities are pervasive, and we have a role to play in helping to address them.
A core part of our commitment and responsibility is to speak up for change in the communities where we live and work and make meaningful contributions for a more equitable society.
In 2020, we made a $10 million commitment to create economic opportunities and foster upward mobility for Black and other underserved communities.
Part of that commitment includes collaborating with organizations that cultivate Black technology development and entrepreneurship, especially with HBCUs. Among others, our work supports: YouthBuild USA, Jobs for America’s Graduates, Per Scholas and Year Up.
In the last 12 years, we’ve committed $600 million to advance education and create opportunity, particularly in historically underserved populations.
In the past five years, AT&T has contributed $215 million to increase education, skill building and career readiness opportunities in Black and underserved communities.
Additionally, we’re working in cities across the country to expand economic opportunity through our employee-led AT&T BelievesSM program, a company-wide localized effort to create positive change in our communities.
To help with the homework gap, we made a $10 million commitment to support our nation’s most vulnerable students, who don’t have adequate internet access and are disconnected from learning.
In December 2020, AT&T joined more than 30 leading companies in committing to OneTen, a coalition to break down barriers to success by creating one million family-sustaining jobs for Black Americans in the next ten years.
We spent $3.1 billion with Black-owned suppliers, surpassing a $3 billion two-year commitment to drive diversity and inclusion across our business and communities where we live and work. And we look forward to continuing to drive economic impact for Black-owned businesses and communities beyond 2021.
We continue to strive to put the community first and we work with entities that support cultural enrichment and economic empowerment, including: Color of Change, National Action Network, National Urban League, NAACP, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the Equal Justice Initiative.
